What:

Wondering what the Campers will do while at Camp?  Each day is filled with crafts, games, and educational activities that support the daily theme.  Campers also take 2 field trips to the beach and one to the marsh to continue to fun.  And of course, every day we eat snack and have lunch (Campers must provide their own lunch).  Hmmm, are we missing something? Oh yeah, we visit with our sea turtle patients EVERY DAY!  Read below for more information on each day’s theme.

Day 1:  An Introduction to Sea Turtles

Campers learn the different adaptations of sea turtles, and the biology of the 5 species found near Georgia.  One lucky Camper may even be turned into a sea turtle!

Day 2:  Nifty Nesters and Turtle Tracks

Campers learn how sea turtles nest and the details of the hatching process.  We then travel to the beach to become beach detectives to find sea turtle tracks and real sea turtle nests.

Day 3:  Threats to Sea Turtle Survival

Campers will learn about the many natural and human-related threats sea turtles face during different life stages.  Everything from marine debris, to boat strikes, to predators, to beach obstacles and more!  We will once again venture to the beach, this time to help clean it up!

Day 4:  It’s Not Just Sea Turtles!  (NEW!!!)

Ever wonder about other turtle species that sometimes need help at the Georgia Sea Turtle Center?  Discover all about the beautiful and unique diamondback terrapin that inhabits our marshes.  Learn about Georgia’s state reptile, the gopher tortoise, and why this animal is a keystone species.  And of course, who can forget the box turtles???!!!

Day 5:  How We Can Help Sea Turtles

Campers learn how they too can participate  meaningfully in sea turtle conservation, helping to ensure the survival of these amazing creatures!  Parents are invited to Sea Turtle Camp Graduation, where the students present to them all their new knowledge.
