Can’t make it to Jekyll Island for a field trip? The Georgia Sea Turtle Center can come to you!  Choose one of our convenient options featured below:

Option 1:  Sea Turtles in the Classroom

The Georgia Sea Turtle Center Outreach Staff brings learning about sea turtles and their marine environment to life for your group with specimens, interactive activities such as role playing and games!

Teachers can choose from a list of programs and all programs are correlated to the Georgia Performance Standards.

Details:

  • Fees:$125 for each program with a maximum of 30 students per program*
  • Travel fees** apply to locations outside of a 25 mile radius
  • 0-25 miles = No charge
  • 26-49 miles = $1 per mile (One Direction)
  • 0ver 50 miles away: To account for time away from the Center, we ask that you pay for the Educator’s travel time at $50 per hour. (Both Directions) Overnight trips will incur charges for meals and lodging and will be assessed in a case-by-case basis.

* An additional 7% sales tax will be added to non-tax exempt groups for a total of $133.75 per program.

**Please note that all travel fees are subject to change due to increasing gas prices and are assessed on an individual basis.

Option 2:  My Sea Turtle Journey to Go

By becoming sea turtles through the identity of their My Sea Turtle Journey To Go Bookmarks, students will learn various aspects of a sea turtle’s journey from egg to adulthood.  My Sea Turtle Journey To Go is correlated to the Georgia Performance Standards.

Package includes:

  1. My Sea Turtle Journey To Go Bookmarks ($1 per student)
  2. Teacher’s Guide CD ($10) including:
  • Georgia Sea Turtle Center Virtual Tour
  • Georgia Sea Turtle Center Comprehensive Guide to Sea Turtles

Option 3:  Community Group Outreach

Have a civic group who’d like an evening presentation about sea turtles? An engaging presentation, along with genuine specimens such as bones and shells, brings out the sea turtle enthusiast in everyone! Choose from the list of programs, or we can create a program to accommodate your needs. Please contact us to discuss an offsite program.

Scute the Loggerhead Sea Turtle Mascot

Looking for a special treat? Invite the GSTC mascot, Scute, to your event. Appearances are approximately 30 minutes to one hour long depending upon room or outdoor temperature and “inner Scute” physical demands.

Advance booking is required because of Scute’s charming appeal!

Fee: $85 (plus tax). (Note: A surcharge may be added for events occurring outside of regular GSTC hours.)
