Tammy Ledford moved to Jekyll Island in February 2006 from the Florida Keys. She and her husband had vacationed on Jekyll Island for years and loved the island so much they decided to relocate permanently. Tammy began at the Georgia Sea Turtle Center as a volunteer shortly after it opened in June of 2007. She volunteered in the gift shop and any special projects that needed help. When the gift shop needed more personnel, Tammy was approached by the manager and asked to become a permanent member of the staff. Now, Tammy is the Gift Shop Co-Coordinator as well as continuing to volunteer in husbandry for special projects such as the Diamondback Terrapin Project for the Jekyll Island Causeway. As a mom of 5 children and 25 years experience in retail, Tammy’s history has prepared her well for a career at the Georgia Sea Turtle Center. Tammy loves the outdoors and has a magnificent green thumb as she gardens and grows many kinds of plants and flowers. This love and concern for the environment is also evident in Tammy’s everyday life as she works very hard to recycle at her home. She is also excellent at reminding GSTC staff and guests to use that are located at this facility and to “not kill trees” when printing. In her spare time Tammy and Jerry enjoy NASCAR racing, football, and cooking. Many friends and family are lucky enough to get to come to their house often to sample the latest recipe she has discovered.
