Marine Field Programs Coordinator
Stefanie began her career in marine biology at the New England Aquarium in Boston, MA where she worked and volunteered in various departments from 1997-1999, including Penguins, Giant Ocean Tank, Design, Whale Watch and Science at Sea Programs. In 1999, she relocated to South Florida where she attained a Joint Master of Science in Marine Biology and Marine Environmental Science from Nova Southeastern University Oceanographic Center, FL. She was the Project Manager for the Broward County Sea Turtle Conservation Program from 2001-2006. Overseeing 22 graduate students annually, she was responsible for conducting all sea turtle conservation efforts on the beaches in Broward County including beach patrols, nest relocations & excavations, hatchery maintenance, data collection and reports, lighting surveys/workshops, hatchling disorientation events, stranding and salvage response, and educational awareness programs. In April 2007, Stefanie found herself relocating once again, but this time to Georgia. As the Marine Field Programs Coordinator of the GSTC, she manages the nest monitoring, saturation tagging and assessment of Jekyll Island’s nesting sea turtle population in addition to a number of other research projects. She is developing a SEANET program for Jekyll, manages the Adopt-a-Sea Turtle and Membership Programs, the GSTC website, the Exhibit Gallery and the Satellite Tagging and Telemetry Program.
