Alicia’s interest in sea turtles first began while working as an Environmental Educator at the Suffolk County Marine Environmental Learning Center (SCMELC), on Long Island, New York. Alicia graduated (May 2007) from Duke University, where she received a Master’s Degree in Coastal Environmental Management. While at Duke, her research focused on endangered species conservation, specifically sea turtles, in the Caribbean region. Her master’s project, titled “Sun, Sand and Sea Turtles: Inspiring Caribbean Youth through Nonformal Education,” is a curriculum guide for a sea turtle camp she created while completing her master’s research in Nevis, West Indies during the summer of 2006. Alicia brings with her expertise and a passion for sea turtle conservation through outreach and education. As the Education Coordinator, Alicia supervises the GSTC Education Staff, AmeriCorp Education Members, Programming, Professional Development, and organizes all school and public outreach opportunities.
