I am a retired Dentist who practiced many years in Elmira, NY. First with my dad, then alone and eventually with my son and nephew. I bragged that it took two of them to replace me. They didn’t laugh.
Jane, my wife of 60 years this August, and I first visited Jekyll in the 60′s with our kids for spring break. We loved the Island but stopped visiting when their schedules stopped meshing. Our daughter moved here directly from College and worked her career with the Glynn County School System. Naturally that was the perfect reason to return to the Golden Isles and we eventually purchased a home here and spent many vacations on Jekyll, eventually retiring here and becoming full time residents. I’ve wasted uncounted hours playing golf here and up north. Still do and still manage to enjoy the game despite waning skills. Discovered Pottery at Goodyear Cottage and now waste even more time throwing pots. Clay has been a wonderful addition to my enjoyment of advanced age.
Bob Weitz is responsible for my interest in the GSTC. His stories, as we golfed, piqued my interest and it has been a fun and interesting time at the Center. Interacting with the visitors and imparting my limited knowledge has been most satisfying. Meeting and working with the staff at the Center has been an eye opener. They are most dedicated to conservation, turtles and everything wild. It also gave me an excuse to talk to real people who actually listen to me and they are under 65 years old.
Thanks to you all for making my Wednesday mornings a fun and interesting time and especially a thank you to Jane for putting up with me all these years. And we still talk to each other.
